Odell Beckham Jr. has a broken ankle that will require surgery this week to repair. The New York Giants placed him on injured reserve, and the injury will end his 2017 season.
that doesn’t bode well for the remainder of the season,For the 0-5 Giants, not for an offense that was already struggling even when it had its most dynamic weapon. But the question now is how the injury will affect Beckham’s future in the NFL and his future with the team that drafted him in the first round in 2014.
the Giants picked up the fifth-year option for Beckham keeping him under contract for the 2018 season. But he’s scheduled to become a free agent in 2019. It was already a difficult contract to get a handle on,In the offseason, and now it’s even more complicated by the injury suffered Sunday.with the Giants
Beckham told Uninterrupted he wants to become the highest-paid player in the NFL. That mark currently belongs to Matthew Stafford after the Lions quarterback signed a six-year,In July, $135 million contract in August.
For Beckham to even cross the $100 million mark would be unprecedented for a receiver and would still come up way short of the top salary in the NFL.
Maybe Beckham aims to be the highest-paid player in the NFL with the addition of the money he makes in endorsements. That’s more realistic considering how large his star is off the field. But it’d be surprising if Beckham was willing to settle for anything less than the No. 1 spot at his position.
So the question is how amenable he’ll be to a more realistic number and how willing to pay up the Giants are going to be.
The best teams in the NFL don’t hand out contracts to reward play from the past, but to invest in a player for the future. Giving Beckham a huge deal would only be smart if the Giants believe the fast start to his career will continue for many years to come.
But Beckham’s fractured ankle adds to a growing list of injuries suffered by the wide receiver in his four seasons in the NFL.
He missed the first four games of his career due to a hamstring injury, and played through hip and thumb injuries during the 2016 season — the only year he played all 16 games. Prior to Sunday, dealt with more hamstring problems in 2015, Beckham suffered an ankle sprain in preseason that kept him out in Week 1.
His latest setback is the worst of his career, but it raises red flags for the wide receiver that may make the Giants hesitant to throw record-breaking amounts to him.
Still, allowing him to walk after the 2018 season also doesn’t seem realistic.
the likely scenario on the horizon is Beckham receiving the franchise tag during the 2019 offseason. There’s plenty of time for things to change,Womens Robby Anderson Jersey,For now, but the likelihood of the receiver getting his mega contract from the Giants any time soon appears slight.
The Giants are going to need some receivers in the coming weeks after losing Odell Beckham Jr. for the season Sunday and also seeing Brandon Marshall and Sterling Shepard go down during a 27-22 loss to the Chargers with what looked to be significant ankle injuries.
Beckham likely will need surgery on his fractured left ankle. And Dwayne Harris,Womens Steve McLendon Jersey, went down in the third quarter with a fractured foot, a special-teams player who is also a reserve receiver,Womens Lac Edwards Jersey, ending his season as well.
Where can the Giants turn for help? Well, knows the personnel,Womens James Carpenter Jersey, one of their all-time favorites, currently is unemployed as a football player and could be an option. Cruz knows the offensive system, knows Eli Manning,Womens Brian Winters Jersey, Victor Cruz, knows everything there is to know about the Giants. He was signed in the offseason by the Bears,Authentic Fletcher Cox Jersey, but failed to make Chicago’s roster.
From within, a second-year player who made the team in 2016 as an undrafted free agent, the Giants have a few options. Roger Lewis, is the only healthy wide receiver on the roster. Lewis had a brilliant 29-yard touchdown catch against the Chargers, making an over-the-shoulder grab and dragging both feet in the corner of the end zone.

There are three receivers on the practice squad: Travis Rudolph (Florida State), Ed Eagan (Northwestern State) and Marquis Bundy (New Mexico). None of the three has appeared in an NFL game. Rudolph was impressive in training camp and in the preseason games and could be the first option.
Elsewhere? Well, former NFL star receivers Terrell Owens and Chad Johnson both tweeted that they would be interested in signing with the Giants. Do not hold your breath on either getting a retweet by the Giants.
According to Dr. David J. Chao, injuries that will require surgery. Chao, Beckham likely has torn ligaments in his left ankle and a fractured fibula, a former NFL team doctor and a practicing orthopedic surgeon.
Based on the video of the injury, Chao diagnosed Beckham with a complete syndesmotic ligament tear and fibula fracture. It is a season-ending injury. Chao said Beckham has a good chance for a 100 percent recovery.
Sunday Night Football features a New York Giants team that just lost its top four receivers to injury against a Denver defense coming off a bye that allows the fewest yards per game in the NFL.
The Broncos are favored by 12 points, or total number of points Vegas thinks will be scored, up three from an open of nine. The Over-Under, is 40,Authentic Robby Anderson Jersey, down one from an open of 41.
Before you make any bets on Giants-Broncos, you'll want to hear what Mike "Top Dog" Tierney has to say.
Last week on Sunday Night Football,Authentic Steve McLendon Jersey, knowing Houston's offense would continue to light up the scoreboard against Kansas City. The result: Chiefs 42, Tierney told SportsLine readers to go Over 47,Authentic Lac Edwards Jersey, Texans 34, the easiest Over ever.
it also improved Tierney's Over-Under record to 10-3 this season after he went a blistering 22-9 last year. He has a gift for picking NFL totals,Authentic James Carpenter Jersey,Amazingly, and anyone who has followed his picks is up big.
Tierney knows the Giants' offense is without its top playmakers. All-world WR Odell Beckham (ankle) is done for the year. Authentic Brian Winters Jersey,So are Brandon Marshall (ankle) and Dwayne Harris (foot). And Sterling Shepard (ankle) is day-to-day.
Meanwhile, Denver's defense remains elite. They're No. 7 in points allowed (18.5) and No. 1 against the run (50.8 yards per game).
But that doesn't mean Sunday Night Football goes Under,Womens Fletcher Cox Jersey, the team's de-facto No. 1 wideout, especially with a low total of 40. Giants RB Orleans Darkwa came to life with an 8-69-1 stat line against the Chargers. And Roger Lewis,Authentic Torrey Smith Jersey, scored a TD.
And this is the same Broncos team that popped 41 points on the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2. QB Trevor Siemian has thrown multiple touchdowns and/or topped 250 yards in all but one game this season.
rookie TE Evan Engram,Eli Manning is in the top 10 in passing touchdowns (eight). He's No. 1 in completions (137) and still has pass-catching RB Shane Vereen, and RB Wayne Gallman at his disposal.
but what about the Over-Under,Tierney is leaning on the Broncos to cover, which he has made his name picking?
He knows there's a huge x-factor that ultimately determines whether Giants-Broncos on Sunday Night Football goes Over or Under. And he's sharing it over at SportsLine.
