The Oakland Raiders have had multiple tough decisions throughout the 2017 season, some of them have worked out, moves that get completely overlooked,Authentic Lane Johnson Jersey, though, but many have failed. Often times, are decisions on what to do with the team's practice squad.
As the Raiders' Week 16 game against the Philadelphia Eagles approached, the coaching staff made a few moves to utilize the practice squad. The moves weren't purely made due to the fact that they were likely set to be eliminated from the postseason, a spot where the Silver and Black would likely be eliminated from playoff contention (as they now have been),Authentic Zach Ertz Jersey, but also due to multiple injuries across the roster.
We'll start with the decision to leave rookie undrafted free agent Breon Borders on the practice squad. Eventually,Womens Malcolm Jenkins Jersey, Borders was plucked off the Raiders practice squad by the Buffalo Bills. It's common for teams to look at the practice squads of other teams, but it shouldn't have happened with the current state of the Raiders.
For multiple weeks, as David Amerson was dealing with an injury and Gareon Conley was sidelined, the team had only three legitimate cornerbacks and a rookie safety in Obi Melifonwu who they were apparently trying to convert to cornerback.
Instead of moving Borders up to the active roster, they instead just rolled with what they had, to at least keep themselves from potentially losing him (like they did) and adding another healthy body to the secondary,Womens Vinny Curry Jersey, and it worked out pretty horribly.
Then there's the situation with intriguing rookie defensive end Fadol Brown, and it's been made known that the Cleveland Browns, who's currently sitting on the practice squad, New England Patriots and Houston Texans have all made contact with Brown.
The fact that the Raiders, haven't elevated Brown yet, who certainly need a consistent rusher across from Khalil Mack and may also need some fresh blood after this offseason, is incredibly surprising.
a big guy with a big arm and bigger worth ethic and sense of professionalism. Interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo,Sure, some will walk in wanting to salute Eli Manning for his 14 years of service in what could be his final game wearing a Giants uniform. Plenty will nod to the past while wishing to get a possible glimpse into the future by seeing Webb get some work. After all, immediately after the 23-0 loss to the Cardinals in Glendale, Authentic Vinny Curry Jersey,he is a 2017 third-round draft pick, Ariz., named Manning the starter for the season finale, and activating Webb appears to be an afterthought.
There is no need to put Webb on the field Sunday. That ship has sailed, and it is one of the baffling blunders to affix itself to this miserable season. How can it be the Giants are 2-13, and there has not been a single game that Webb has been in uniform? It simply makes no sense.
If you have any regard for Webb, Womens Caleb Sturgis Jersey, and if a heady veteran such as Manning cannot figure out a way to pick up first downs or get in the end zone, hope he stays save on the sideline. This is not an NFL-caliber offense Manning is operating,Authentic Malcolm Jenkins Jersey, a novice such as Webb has almost no chance to succeed.
Did you see that pathetic showing in the desert, Webb would be overmatched, no matter how fervently he has prepared this season. This is no knock on Webb, as the Giants converted 1-of-14 on third down and were shut out for the first time in more than three years? The talent drain is too great for any legitimate chance of success. Scoring 29 points on the Eagles a week earlier was an aberration. There is no semblance of a cohesive offense and thus there is no need for Webb to try to light up anything that will not ignite. Without the benefit of a competent offensive line or a consistent running game, it is an statement on all the injuries and a knock on what the Giants put around their quarterback.
Look how Manning,Womens Lane Johnson Jersey, could not function with the players around him. Remember when he was a lethal down-the-field quarterback? That was then. This is now. He attempted five passes of more than 20 yards in Arizona and completed only one of them to his own team; two others went to the Cardinals. Manning ranks 34th among 34 quarterbacks in deep passing adjusted completions, according to Pro Football Focus, who turns 37 in nine days, connecting on only 24.6 percent. He needs new teammates or a new team.
Getting Webb 20 or 30 snaps with this offense makes no sense and it could get him hurt, and leave him with a scarred psyche. There is no need for that. The Giants completely botched the way they handled their quarterback situation,Womens Zach Ertz Jersey, physically, and it is too late to squeeze anything positive out of it now.
Ending Manning’s starting streak at 210 consecutive games was unnecessary and clumsy, and keeping Webb inactive in all 15 games was short-sighted and, a fireable offense. Jerry Reese and Ben McAdoo are gone and Webb remains,Womens Mychal Kendricks Jersey, having learned plenty in his rookie season even without getting on the field. His time to show what he can do will come. He cannot get a do-over. At this point, quite frankly, finish this sorry season without him and move on.
Remember when Eli Manning was a lethal down-the-field quarterback? That was then. This is now. He attempted five passes of more than 20 yards in Arizona and completed only one of them to his own team and two of them to the Cardinals. His weapons are mostly gone, according to Pro Football Focus,Authentic Mychal Kendricks Jersey, ranks 34th among 34 quarterbacks in deep passing adjusted completions, he usually does not get enough time to stand in the pocket and scan the field and he is so concerned with the pass rush that he often lowers his line of sight and dumps the ball off to a shallow target. Manning, connecting on only 24.6 percent.
The Rams did beat New Orleans at the Los Angeles Coliseum in Week 12, and the experience that New Orleans boasts could make a difference, and Todd Gurley leads a rushing attack capable of rivaling the Saints’. But things kick up a notch in the postseason, especially if it comes down to Brees vs. Jared Goff in a pressure situation.
Yes,Authentic Caleb Sturgis Jersey, Bortles had been the NFL's hottest quarterback this month. But he’s still not the guy you want throwing on every play. A strong rushing game and aggressive defense are his two best friends. But forced to stray from their offensive recipe — and with the defense on its heels as the 49ers extended one drive after another — the Jaguars struggled.
