Last game, Claude Giroux wanted it reported that he wasn’t happy with his own play. He thought the team’s best players should be the ones producing and although he was happy secondary scoring was there, he wants to be the one doing the heavy lifting for the Flyers.
The bigger impact was when Montreal evened the score with a shorthanded goal and Giroux got the lead back 28 seconds later.
“That was a big response, gathered themselves and went back,” coach Dave Hakstol said. “You give up a shorthanded goal and that can be a real momentum swing. The fact that those guys came back, made a play and scored a goal…there were two or three points in this game that were pretty important and that was one of them.”
The Flyers nearly let the Canadiens stay alive with turnovers in the defensive zone and failed clears, but ultimately pulled the game out thanks to Ivan Provorov’s empty-net goal in the last minute of play.
It was Giroux’s fifth three-point game this season and needed for a win that made for a big night. The New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils both lost in regulation, the Flyers got closer to where they want to be, so while the order of the standings didn’t change, which isn’t just a wild card spot.
And Giroux chewing himself out may have helped his own game, but Hakstol loved how it looked to teammates even more.
“He expects a lot from the people around him,” the coach said. “After a good win for our team, but he puts himself at the head of the line, he had a lot of praise for his teammates and felt like he needed to be better (Tuesday against Carolina). That’s something that was well respected in the locker room.”
This isn’t exactly breaking news, but the Flyers have struggled with effectively clearing the puck from their zone. It has been particularly costly on the penalty kill recently and in the second period it was 5-on-5 when Radko Gudas coughed it up and Andrew Shaw ended up tying the game late in the frame.
Gudas had an awful game, spending more time on all fours than Scott Hartnell, adidas Philipp Grubauer jersey, who used to count his falls and make a donation to charity. Gudas’ charity Thursday night was a few shots against or at least an odd-man rush.
“I think there were four or five plays whether it be at the offensive blue line — we’ve got a lead and they didn’t have a whole lot going on — instead of just putting it in behind (their net) when we had nothing else,” he said. “Then in our own end we had a couple pucks near the blue line where instead of just punching them out and working the puck up the ice, we tried to make something out of nothing, adidas Blake Wheeler jersey, we didn’t do that. Those things hurt us. Hopefully that’s something we can take from this game and apply as we go forward.”
going 0-for-6.,A rough second period put rookie Nolan Patrick in the doghouse. He took a careless holding penalty and couldn’t win a faceoff all night
the rookie was on the fourth line,By the third, who played in his first game since Jan. 4. Patrick finished with 11:44 of ice time but co-led the Flyers in shots with four. All of them came in the first period.,adidas Patrik Laine jersey, centering Jori Lehtera and Dale Weise
” Hakstol said of replacing Patrick with Valtteri Filppula. “Through the first two (periods),“A little bit matchup related, so it’s a good switch with Fil and Patty flip-flopping. They both went out and did the job in the third period.”, the matchup against the (Tomas) Plekanec line wasn’t quite what we wanted it to be
the Flyers were at home and therefore had the ability to make the last line change. Hakstol could have avoided it if he wanted to without swapping centers.,Authentic Michael Hutchinson jersey,If it were really about matchups
a day after being called up from Binghamton (AHL).,Rookie left wing John Quenneville was a healthy scratch for Saturday night's 3-1 win over the Penguin at Prudential Center
coming off Tuesday night’s 3-1 win at Buffalo and Thursday night’s 4-3 win over the visiting Flyers.,That was because Devils coach John Hynes opted to dress 11 forwards and seven defensemen for the third straight game
22,The alignment has allowed Hynes to ease defenseman Mirco Mueller, adidas Connor Hellebuyck jersey, who now has points in 10 straight games after logging an assist in a season-high 25:58., back into the rotation after the defenseman missed 31 game with a fractured left clavicle as well as double-shift Taylor Hall
” said Devils center Travis Zajac,“When you look at it after, it’s a fast game, it wasn’t like some of his malicious intent-to-injure type of hits. You never know what the league is going to do.”, when you look back at it, who fought Gudas as soon as he exited the penalty box. “It could have been avoided maybe. Probably. But I think
a repeat offender in terms of suspensions,Palmieri said after the game Gudas, had lost the benefit of the doubt. But he, like Zajac, was not surprised Gudas did not receive a hearing with the NHL Player Safety Department.
it is what it is,“No, it’s not my decision to make.”,” Palmieri said. “Like I said before
“The effort didn’t change overnight, that’s the truth. That’s a fact.”,” Peters said. “The effort wasn’t very good guys
And nothing changed about the team, and Peters said he wasn’t expecting any new arrivals. Justin Faulk was the first player off the ice after practice. Scott Darling saw plenty of shots and Cam Ward will start Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Flyers. All business as usual despite Sunday’s disaster., either. No one was on waivers to make room for call-ups from Charlotte
good teams bounce back right away,“When it doesn’t go your way, for lack of a better word.”,” Justin Williams said. “The response against San Jose was poor
Ron Francis thought Sunday was fine. Two,There are three possible ways to look at this: One, Peters begged for help and didn’t get any,Authentic Philipp Grubauer jersey, an indication that it’s put-up-or-shut-up time for him. Or three, the players are being told that no help is around the corner and they’re going to have to figure their own way out of this.
While the Hurricanes have a handful of players who would almost certainly clear waivers and a handful of players tearing things up in the AHL,Authentic Dustin Byfuglien jersey, there’s not a lot of reason to expect that it will.,Authentic Blake Wheeler jersey, the belief is that this current team is physically talented enough to emerge from the mess at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division and claim a playoff spot if it can get its mind right. How the Hurricanes respond to Peters’ comments Tuesday will have a lot to say about whether it can. Given that Sunday was the team’s response to another poor performance Friday
“That remains to be seen, if that makes any sense, because you don’t do it unless you do it,Authentic Patrik Laine jersey, because it’s right there for us. If we play to our standards, adidas Dustin Byfuglien jersey, what kind of team we want to be,” Hurricanes forward Justin Williams said. “We have 29 games here to find out who we are, it’s still right there for us. So we just have to do it.”
Every indication suggested that 2018 would be an unforgettable year for Logan Couture.
After narrowly missing the cut for Canada’s Olympic men’s hockey team in 2014,Authentic Connor Hellebuyck jersey, landed an invitation to the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and emerged as one of the best two-way centers in the NHL., the Sharks forward went on an eye-popping run in the 2016 Stanley Cup playoffs
Instead of potentially competing for his country overseas when the tournament kicks off on Feb. 14, who wrap up a five-game road trip against the Colorado Avalanche (28-19-4) in Denver Tuesday.,adidas Michael Hutchinson jersey, Couture will be in the middle of a playoff race with the Sharks (28-16-8)
” Couture said. “It would mean a lot to win a medal,“It is disappointing, represent your country. I had an amazing time playing in the World Cup, playing for Canada. It would have been a cool experience, but my ultimate goal is to win the Stanley Cup.
