Trevor Siemian isn't sweating the Broncos' pursuit of a franchise quarterback, nor his teammates advocating for some guy named Kirk Cousins.
The tape, dictates results in this business,Womens Virgil Green Jersey, more than anything else, and Siemian's -- by his own admission -- wasn't good enough.
“It’s understandable, via Mike Klis of 9News. “We won five games last year. In this league playing quarterback,Authentic Ryan Shazier Jersey,’’ Siemian said of the swirling QB rumors, you’re judged on wins and losses. I get it. It’s part of the deal.
“I just wish I would have done some things differently. It would have been nice to play a little better and get us a few more wins. But I’ll look back and I’ll learn from it and be better for it.’’
After two up-and-mostly-down seasons as Denver's starter, who also represents Cousins,Womens Joe Haden Jersey, Siemian finds himself with one foot out of the Dove Valley door. The team is expected to make him available for trade leading up to the March 14 start of free agency, and general manager John Elway has scheduled a meeting with Siemian's agent, Mike McCartney, at this week's Scouting Combine.
Being that his ceiling is that of a quality backup, Siemian -- signed for $1.918 million through 2018, the final year of his rookie contract -- should attract at least a few NFL suitors and a late-round draft pick in return. But he's not yet thinking that far down the line.
“I don’t have any comment for you,’’ he told Klis. “It is what it is. It’s a business. We’ll see what happens.’’
Kirk Cousins has been the name that most Denver Broncos fans have been focusing on heading into the NFL offseason. He is the best quarterback available in free agency, and many believe that the Broncos are the team he is most interested in joining if they can pay him the kind of contract he’s looking for.
While that may be the case, there is no guarantee that Cousins and the Broncos will be able to come together on a deal. If they can’t agree to terms, there is another free agent quarterback that could be the Broncos’ “Plan B.”
According to a report from Denver radio host Benjamin Allbright, the Broncos could target Case Keenum if Cousins doesn’t end up signing with them.
That report is coming on the heels of a report that the Minnesota Vikings will not franchise tag Keenum. Ian Rapoport originally reported on the Vikings’ decision to not tag Keenum.
Needless to say, Keenum would be an intriguing pickup for the Broncos after the big season he had for the Vikings.
Authentic Brandon Marshall Jersey, then not surround him with good players.
The second tier of free agent quarterbacks brings a lower price tag and greater risk. Denver will have interest in Keenum. But where is the line in the sand? He was 9-15 as a starter prior to his magical performance in Minnesota in 2017. Is he the NFL's "Macarena" -- a one-year wonder?
Keenum figures to receive at least $20 million per season, if not $23 to $24 million. Think of the Brock Osweiler contract. No way Keenum receives less than Osweiler. It would be a prudent deal if Keenum's performance could be trusted. Broncos advisor Gary Kubiak knows Keenum well,Authentic Virgil Green Jersey, and that should help in any evaluation.
who has not missed a start in three seasons,Keenum went 11-3 during the regular season, completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 22 touchdowns and seven picks. Cousins,Womens Cameron Heyward Jersey,Authentic Anthony Chickillo Jersey, posted a 9-7 record, connecting on 69.8 percent of his passes for 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Keenum was sacked 22 times compared to 26 for Cousins.
Keenum delivered. But can he duplicate it with a new offensive coordinator and fewer weapons? It's a fair concern.,By any measure
If not Keenum, A.J. McCarron's name will surface. The risk increases given his lack of resume. He has made three career starts,Authentic Joe Haden Jersey, going 2-1. To sign him would likely mean drafting a quarterback in the second or third round.
my Twitter village brings valuable Broncos' insights. And the question emerged quickly with the Keenum news: Would the Broncos be better off drafting their franchise quarterback with the fifth overall pick? ,Twitter can serve as an echo chamber. However
makes sense. However, the Broncos will receive a better look and additional interviews with prospects Josh Rosen, too, the team's posture this offseason shows no signs of the type of patience required for starting a rookie. At the NFL combine this week, Sam Darnold,This, Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield. They also figure to get a handle on what it will take to sign Cousins, if not Keenum.
We're less than two months into the NFL offseason and things have already gotten kind of awkward for Trevor Siemian.
After starting 24 games for the Broncos over the past two seasons, the team has basically been shooing him out the door over the past six weeks. Not only are the Broncos reportedly trying to trade him, but his own teammates have been trying to recruit guys like Kirk Cousins to take his place.
and did we mention that John Elway said his main goal this offseason was to upgrade the quarterback position? Because that also happened. ,Oh
Basically, it seems like no one in Denver really wants to see Siemian return as the starter in 2018, and the crazy thing is that he's apparently OK with that.
Siemian said he has no problem with the fact that Broncos players have been actively recruiting Cousins or that everyone keeps mentioning that the team needs to upgrade at quarterback. ,During a recent interview 9news.com in Denver
"It's understandable,'' Siemian said. "We won five games last year. In this league playing quarterback, you're judged on wins and losses. I get it. It's part of the deal."
The Broncos went 5-11 last season, but it wasn't exactly his fault. Siemian went 5-5 in 10 starts while Paxton Lynch and Brock Osweiler combined to go winless in their six starts. With the 2017 season behind him, Siemian said the only thing he can do now is get better for the future.
" Siemian said. "It would have been nice to play a little better and get us a few more wins. But I'll look back and I'll learn from it and be better for it.","I just wish I would have done some things differently
there's a chance that Siemian could return to Denver. The 2015 seventh-round pick still has one year left on his rookie deal,The 26-year-old quarterback has gone 13-11 over the past two seasons, and even if the Broncos sign someone like Cousins, Womens Brandon Marshall Jersey, and at a $1.9 base salary for 2018, he would be a very affordable backup quarterback.
Osweiler didn't really want to have a conversation about it. ,Authentic Cameron Heyward Jersey,Although Siemian seemed to be understanding of the fact that his teammates want a new quarterback
"Players, coaches, teammates,Womens Darian Stewart Jersey," Osweiler said. "The beautiful thing about being able to live in this country is not only are you entitled to your opinion, everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion, but you can speak it."
After making $16 million in 2017 -- with $15.25 million of the coming from the Browns and just $775,Womens Ryan Shazier Jersey,000 coming from the Broncos -- Osweiler is set to be a free agent on March 14 and will be allowed to sign with anyone. The Broncos are going to need a backup quarterback in 2018, so it wouldn't be completely surprising if they decide to bring back either Siemian or Osweiler next season.
