As the Blues' offense staggers along, Blues coach Mike Yeo is pulling out the team's not-so-secret weapon: He's putting the line of Brayden Schenn, adidas Daniel Sedin jersey, in desperate need of goals to break out of a near-fatal late-season slump, Jaden Schwartz and Vladimir Tarasenko back together.
"We need offense," Yeo said after the team's practice session Friday. "Those guys have done it. We reunited them for a little bit there and didn't quite get the results so I separated them and I'd say we got even less results. So it's time to put them back together."
Those three formed a potent line back when the Blues were on a roll in October and November. They were broken up at the start of December, and then using them as a group wasn't an option after Schwartz got hurt. When Schwartz came back, but with a desire not to put all his best offensive eggs in one basket, Yeo looked at the group for a couple games, he aligned them with other partners.
having one line with all the team's top offensive talent may be the best way to try to get some goals and then some wins.,But now with the Blues having been shut out in three of their past six games and not scoring more than three goals in a game in a month
"You look at a lot of things," Yeo said, "and you look at the analytics of who's done well with who and how the team has performed. We weighed a lot of those things and gave it a try and it didn't work so obviously, here we are.
"They had a real good practice together, a little bit more of a workmanlike attitude, a big part of it too, those are three very skilled offensive players. I thought we had lines that had no identity, guys that were trying to make cute plays that shouldn't be making cute plays, a little bit different mindset,Authentic Jonathan Drouin jersey, they looked good. For me, I think it puts them in a situation now, I think that will help as well."
The Blues' other lines saw Dmitrij Jaskin,Authentic Victor Hedman jersey, who had been with Schenn and Schwartz, Kyle Brodziak and Patrik Berglund stayed together and Ivan Barbashev dropped down to center the fourth line, moving to a third line with Nikita Soshnikov and Vladimir Sobotka. Alexander Steen,Authentic Nikita Kucherov jersey, between Tage Thompson and Chris Thorburn. Oskar Sundqvist was the odd-forward out on Friday.
Goalie Carter Hutton, joined the team in California and was on the ice for practice Friday., who didn't make his expected start on Thursday in San Jose because of a sore neck,Authentic James Van Riemsdyk jersey, didn't practice on Friday, especially considering the way Jake Allen played against San Jose. Ville Husso, which would seem to rule him out for Saturday,Authentic Auston Matthews jersey, called up from San Antonio on Thursday
Defenseman Joel Edmundson practiced again, but there's still no word on his return. "Good day today," Yeo said. "He had a good day today,Authentic Daniel Sedin jersey, I think every day he's coming along. We'll chat with him. I don't know that tomorrow's an option but we'll see how he feels."
Robert Bortuzzo was the only skater not on the ice. Yeo said it was a maintenance day.
