New England Patriots safety Devin McCourty said it’s “sad” to see former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick jobless.

McCourty seemed to throw a shoutout to Kaepernick during the National Anthem in Week 1 of the 2016 NFL season. Kaepernick chose to kneel as a form or protest for social injustice,Womens Bart Starr Jersey, and McCourty chose to stick up his fist.

McCourty’s gesture barely made news. Kaepernick’s gesture was one of the NFL’s biggest storylines in 2016. McCourty was asked for his thoughts on Kaepernick’s free agent status.

“Honestly,” McCourty said Wednesday at the podium at Gillette Stadium. “I think he kind of was aware of what he was getting into. Sad, not that surprised (that he is unsigned), but the guy’s a good player. He’s done some successful things in this league. It’s just how things shake out.

“What he’s done I think has made it hard for him to get a job. Not even going off his talent level, and I think you see that. But I think he was kind of aware of what he did, and what he was doing and the effect it would have on his career. It’s tough on him,Authentic Ziggy Ansah Jersey, I would imagine. Hopefully, but just that alone makes it tough for teams to give him a shot,Authentic Matthew Stafford Jersey, he gets picked up, and has a chance to play.”

McCourty was then asked what it’s like to see NFL players get second chances after domestic violence and violent crimes while Kaepernick doesn’t get a chance because of his political views?

“Yeah, there are people above us that make decisions to either have us on the team or not have us on the team,Womens Darius Slay Jr Jersey,” McCourty said. “So everything you do will have an effect on your career. It’s just something you have to deal with. We’re not the only profession that deals with that. There are a lot of other professions that deal with it. We’re just in the public eye more. It’s something you kind of expect. The longer you’re in the league,Authentic Aaron Rodgers Jersey, you see more things, that’s the thing about this league, you come to understand and see how it works. It’s never easy to handle. Different things happen, but everything happens for a reason.”

McCourty hasn’t been reserved to discuss social issues. He explained why he decided to raise his fist during that Week 1 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

“Around the NFL,” Devin McCourty told reporters in Sept. 2016. “It’s all for the same cause: different social injustices. We’ve talked as players throughout the league trying to make change in our communities one by one using our platform, a lot of guys are doing different things, not just doing it on Sunday’s and game days. We’ve talked about different things we’re going to try to do to help the country and help our communities out.

There’s a good chance San Francisco’s tight ends after final cuts will be all new players. Veteran free agent Logan Paulsen and undrafted rookie Cole Hikutini could round out the group behind Kittle. Incumbents Garrett Celek and Blake Bell will need to improve drastically to make the team.
