Martin’s availability for Thursday’s game is in question as the defenseman, left Tuesday’s practice after only 10 minutes., who is still recovering from offseason ankle surgery

Martin, warmed up and took part in some early drills but left under his own power and did not return. He had fewer than 11 minutes of ice time in the Sharks’ 4-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday., 36

“Dealing with a little something, there is some stuff there for sure.”,” Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said of Martin after Tuesday’s practice. “He had offseason surgery and he’s working himself back in. So

Martin, Brent Burns’ defense partner, had 56 points in 55 regular-season games with the Barracuda last season and won the job in training camp to be the Sharks’ seventh defenseman., has played 161 games and averaged 19:53 of ice time per game in two-plus seasons with the Sharks. Heed, 26

Had a great year last year, arguably the best defenseman in the (AHL), did some really good stuff and made our team. He’s going to play some games and get an opportunity. Whether its the next game or the game after. It’s going to be soon.”,adidas Joe Pavelski jersey,” DeBoer said of Heed. “Had a great training camp

Martin has been a valuable member of the Sharks’ defense since he signed a four-year contract in the summer of 2015. He has been paired with Burns since his arrival, and has been one of the reasons Burns has flourished on the offensive end over the last two seasons.

Martin has played the stay-at-home role, allowing Burns the freedom to join the rush and create offensive chances.

Burns had 151 regular-season points over the last two seasons, adidas Patrick Marleau jersey, he became the first Sharks defenseman to win the Norris Trophy., setting team records both years for goals and points in a single season by a defenseman. In June

If Martin can’t play Thursday, it’s unclear who Burns might be paired with at even strength. Heed, adidas Joe Thornton jersey, is a right-shot defenseman., like Burns

Burns and Heed, though, adidas Martin Jones jersey, Joe Pavelski and Logan Couture., were both on the point on the Sharks’ first power-play unit Tuesday, which also had Joe Thornton

For the first two games of the season, the Sharks had Mikkel Boedker on the top power-play unit, adidas Brent Burns jersey, with Labanc and Couture each scoring one goal., but Boedker was moved to the second unit with forwards Tomas Hertl and Kevin Labanc and defensemen Dylan DeMelo and Marc-Edouard Vlasic. The Sharks’ power play is 2 for 10 this season

Heed’s bullet of a slap shot helped him score eight power-play goals for the Barracuda last season and his presence would certainly give the Sharks’ No. 1 power-play unit a different look from the four-forward, one-defenseman setup they have used for a number of years.

Opposing penalty kill units have worked to block shots that Burns lets go from the point.

“If that happens, we’ve got two good shots back there, so I think that could be a pretty good fit.”,” Heed said of being on the point with Burns. “We can set up each other and be a threat from different positions

Heed, had a memorable NHL debut last season at Calgary on Jan. 11., who signed with the Sharks in 2016

Defenseman Mirco Mueller was listed as being a scratch on the lineup sheet the Sharks gave to the NHL’s scorer before the game. When the game began, Mueller was in uniform and took a shift with Burns early in the first period., though

When on-ice officials noticed Mueller was playing 6:36 into the first period, presumably to test out his leg after he blocked a shot in the game before., he was ruled ineligible and had to leave the game. Martin was on the list initially submitted to league officials and went through pregame warmups

Martin, though, and the Sharks played most of that night with only four defensemen., was not in uniform when the game began

Heed didn’t have a point in that 3-2 loss to the Flames, but finished with 16:29 of ice time in what’s been his only NHL game so far.

“I probably got a little bit more ice time than I was supposed to, but I was happy with it and happy with my game,” Heed said., so, just to bring that positive (mindset)

Listed at 6-feet and 185 pounds, Heed signed with the Sharks in May 2016 after three years in the Swedish Hockey League. He signed a two-year contract extension in June, Radim Simek and others for the seventh defenseman job., then beat out Joakim Ryan

Heed had four assists in five preseason games.

“He looked good in training camp. This is another level in the regular season and when we’re playing big, heavy teams, that’s going to be another test,Authentic Joe Pavelski jersey, and he looks to me like he’s capable of playing here.”,” DeBoer said. “Like all young guys, there’s different hurdles you have to (clear). But he’s going to get an opportunity

His name is "Wesley" and his hockey-loving family gave him a serious makeover in honor of the NHL team.

For the second straight day,Authentic Patrick Marleau jersey, according to our own Brodie Brazil on Facebook Live., defenseman Paul Martin missed practice

Absence creates opportunity, and the beneficiary over the last two days was 26-year-old Swedish defenseman Tim Heed. Heed,Authentic Joe Thornton jersey, made the team out of camp as the seventh defenseman., who led the AHL's San Jose Barracuda in scoring from the blueline last season

His track record from the AHL and an accomplished career in Sweden are impressive, but what Heed represents is arguably more important: A fresh approach.

Yes,Authentic Martin Jones jersey, Kevin Labanc is playing in a top-six role and fellow second-year forward Timo Meier made the team out of camp. Patrick Marleau's gone, the roster that was bounced out in six games in the first round last spring has remained intact., too,Authentic Brent Burns jersey, but for all intents and purposes

Through two games this season, adidas Alex Pietrangelo jersey, things have already started to look stale.

The Sharks have only scored twice at even strength. The power play's looked listless. The penalty kill's bled chances. Martin Jones has struggled.

Head coach Peter DeBoer's juggled the lines in an effort to change things up, but Heed's potential entry into the lineup on Thursday against Buffalo represents a much realer opportunity for change.

Heed also skated on the first power play unit on Tuesday. His presence there fundamentally changes the approach of that group, which would feature two capable,Authentic Alex Pietrangelo jersey, instead of the usual one and four., puck-moving defensemen and three forwards

It's a much more notable difference than plugging Mikkel Boedker in for the departed Marleau. Such a revamp is probably also overdue, and a subtly different one could get the power play going again., given San Jose's drop from third to 25th in power play percentage last season. The previous approach hasn't worked lately

Now, that's not to overstate Heed's importance. He skated with Brenden Dillon at practice on Wednesday, meaning he'll begin the season on the third pairing. His potential may be considerably higher, he'll leave the lineup once Martin's healthy., but he's currently a bottom pairing defenseman potentially set for some time on the power play. And, in all likelihood

But for the first time this season, but deploying the roster differently has proven to be another. Heed could start to change that., it feels like the Sharks are taking a different approach. Playing the youth is one thing

Alone, Heed won't be enough to cure what's ailed the Sharks so far. What he represents, just might be the start of what does., though
