George W. Bush was president, When the Flyers last won in this building, Chris Therien was a player and Keith Primeau their captain — and silent Robert Esche their goaltender du jour., Ken Hitchcock was the Flyers coach

That was way back in December 2005,adidas Carter Hutton jersey, like now, and the only parallel to be drawn is that, in Sergei Bobrovsky, of course, the Flyers were looking for a goalie to lean on. The Blue Jackets have such a person, once a home-grown Flyers prospect who was so frustrated with the team’s lack of faith in him that he threatened to return to Mother Russia if he was not dealt.

So they traded him. To the Blue Jackets. And for the last six seasons he has only added to the Flyers’ futility in Nationwide Arena, with a 1.29 goals-against average and .954 save percentage., and against this team. He entered Friday night with a 6-0-0 record against his old team here

It was going to take a herculean effort for the Flyers to emerge with two points Friday night.

Couturier was denied in close. Bobrovsky’s best save of that period was a filthy theft of Claude Giroux on a three-on-one midway through. Konecny’s mid-ice strip on the right triggered the jailbreak,And that was just the first period. One minute Bobrovsky was sprawling to stop Jordan Weal swooping in alone. A few minutes later,Authentic Martin Jones jersey, and his saucer pass to Giroux from Bobrovsky’s left side to Giroux’s stick on the other side was on the tape. Giroux fired high, and somehow Bobrovsky got enough of his blocker, to deflect it over the net.,Authentic Brent Burns jersey, or stick

On the other end, and sometimes the Flyers sprawled right with him. They were credited with 19 blocked shots, the Blue Jackets 17,Authentic Alex Pietrangelo jersey, Neuvirth did his share of sprawling too, and there were countless missed nets as players on both sides sought desperately to find holes. Just under the seven-minute mark, Lukas Sedlak couldn’t get enough on a two-on-one rebound, Neuvirth stopped Artemi Panarin point-blank after an unlucky bounce put the puck on his stick. Later, adidas Vladimir Tarasenko jersey, Nick Foligno shot just wide of the net amid some of the aforementioned mayhem. With about four minutes left in the period, directing the puck to the side of a wide-open net.

Still, holding the Blue Jackets to one goal and 36 shots in a game that went to overtime constitutes a great defensive effort., given that Columbus had averaged more than 50 shots in three straight games

” said Hakstol. “We’ve won a lot of these games,Authentic Carter Hutton jersey,“We’re more and more comfortable in these games, and make the next play.”, and that’s a lot of credit to our guys staying with it. We give up a late goal off a shot block and it doesn’t rattle anything on our bench a bit. We just go right back on the next shift

There’s not going to be a platoon here like there was in Detroit. Lyon may get the occasional game here and there, adidas Martin Jones jersey, Mrazek will likely be the playoff starter when and if the time comes. Some goalies are comfortable with the competition of a platoon. Mrazek is more comfortable not looking over his shoulder at Detroit’s Jimmy Howard., but Mrazek will be the one the Flyers trot out there in big situations and unless Elliott has a very quick recovery

” he said. “You have to show up every night if you want to play the next game. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. It’s a really good thing when we can battle between goalies and do the best that we can. Sometimes when they say,“The pressure for both of us was pretty high, adidas Brent Burns jersey,’ I think it’s better.”,Authentic Vladimir Tarasenko jersey, ‘you’re the guy who’s gonna play for a while

but Hextall’s aggressive move to acquire Mrazek shows it’s quite the opposite situation.,There wasn’t much of a chance of the Flyers being sellers at next Monday’s trade deadline

” Couturier said.,adidas Alex Pietrangelo jersey,“It just shows that management trusts this group and that’s what you want as a player

but to see that he goes and gets an experienced goalie,Authentic Jake Allen jersey,“We all know how patient Hexy is in developing guys and everything. Now we’re kind of in a tough situation injury-wise, it’s huge. You kind of need that in the long run.”, veteran goalie

it seems hard to fathom they never gave Frost a look for the tournament.,adidas Jake Allen jersey,Morgan Frost is having the latter because his hot streak never seems to end. Even though Canada won gold in the World Junior Championships
