one thing it had to do before the 2018 season kicked off. Somehow, it had to secure the services of DeMarcus Lawrence,Authentic Byron Bell Jersey, 2017's breakthrough defensive star and the Cowboys' first elite pass rusher since DeMarcus Ware left the team for the Broncos in 2013. Monday afternoon, the team accomplished its goal, the team had a single priority,Authentic Brian Schwenke Jersey,As soon as the Cowboys 2017 season ended, placing its franchise tag on Lawrence, ensuring that the Boise State product will remain in Dallas and that he'll get paid like the Pro Bowl player he was in 2017.

Under the NFL's current collective bargaining agreement, if they wish to do so. Players receiving the franchise tag are paid the average salary of the five highest paid players at their position or 120 percent of their previous year's salary,Authentic Jack Conklin Jersey, which deters teams from giving one player the tag in consecutive years. For Lawrence, teams are allowed to tag one player per season, being a franchise player means he'll make $17 million from the Cowboys in 2018,Authentic Kevin Dodd Jersey, unless he and the team work out a long-term contract before July 15.

tied for second best in the league. A back injury limited Lawrence to three starts and just one sack in 2016, otherwise he'd be a prime candidate for a lucrative multi-year exception. By burning their franchise tag on Lawrence,Lawrence is just 26. He had 14.5 sacks in 2017, the Cowboys seem eager to see Lawrence have another All Pro-type season before giving him a significant guarantee.

" Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters Saturday at the NFL's pre-draft scouting combine. "It creates some leverage to get a long-term deal done. You certainly have some ambiguity as a player when you have a one-year deal. You have it as a club,Authentic Austin Johnson Jersey, too. But you can read some tea leaves during that year. I'm satisfied at where the numbers are,"There are advantages that the franchise tag gives you, both Lawrence and the Cowboys are getting value here. I see it both ways. But it's an acceptable value for the Cowboys as well to be able to do a one-year deal."

Often, Pittsburgh's star running back, because it keeps them from getting on the open market and signing with the team of their choice. LeVeon Bell, skipped the preseason last year after getting tagged and has threatened to do so again this year, players are angry to receive the franchise tag, if the Steelers use the tag on him for a second time, as they anticipated to do.

however. In a series of tweets,Lawrence seemed happy with his situation on Monday, he exulted over his new salary and took some good-natured trash talk from teammate Tyrone Crawford.

the team placed the tag on Dez Bryant following the 2015 season, before eventually agreeing to five-year,The Cowboys have used the franchise tag six times on five players since it was implemented as part of the free agency process in 1993. Most recently, $70 million contract with the wide receiver.

the Cowboys will turn their eyes toward free agency, which begins this month,With Lawrence securely in the fold, April's NFL Draft and Dez Bryant's looming contract situation.

but that will now fall to the Browns while the Bills kick off the hunt for a quarterback to join Nathan Peterman on the depth chart in Buffalo. With two first-round picks at their disposal,Taylor leaving the Bills doesn’t come as a surprise as the team never fully committed to him as their starter last season or this offseason. They were due to pay him a $6 million roster bonus at the start of the new league year, they have a lot of potential paths to finding that player.

The Browns could revisit Taylor’s deal or could use him as a bridge for a quarterback they select in this year’s draft. They could also opt to spend the first and fourth overall picks in other ways now that Taylor is in town, which is just one of the ripple effects that the trade will have on this year’s quarterback market.

but Taylor’s presence likely means he’ll be looking elsewhere along with the rest of the free agents that are about to hit the market. We’ll see how those dominos fall soon enough,A.J. McCarron was linked to the Browns, but Friday has brought a clearer image of what the Browns offense is going to look like in 2018.

Another wide receiver mega-contract down, another step closer to understanding the market for Odell Beckham Jr.

You can see the parameters of Beckham’s next contract beginning to form every time another star wideout re-ups.

Tampa Bay’s Mike Evans signed a five-year,Friday, $82.5 million extension with $55 million guaranteed to remain with the Buccaneers. His $16.5 million average annual salary puts him second behind only Antonio Brown’s $17 million figure among receivers.

Dolphins receiver Jarvis Landry,Beckham is hoping to cash in this offseason on the heels of Evans’ new deal. And now is as hot a time as ever for a receiver to strike with the market sizzling coming off Friday’s reported trade of Beckham’s best friend, to the Cleveland Browns for draft picks.

So Beckham is the big name hanging in the balance. And on the one hand, there would seem to be a logical deal to be made to keep him a Giant coming off the Evans and Hopkins deals:

would give Beckham an $18 million average annual salary,Womens Jonnu Smith Jersey,Five years and $90 million with $60 million guaranteed, tops among NFL receivers, for example,Womens Byron Bell Jersey, and set a new benchmark at the position.

Beckham, 94.1 yards and .80 touchdowns per game. Evans (61 games) signed Friday’s contract having averaged five catches, has averaged 6.6 catches,Womens Kevin Dodd Jersey, 75 yards and .52 TDs per game, in his 47-game NFL regular season career,Womens Brian Schwenke Jersey, and Hopkins (64 games) at signing last summer had averaged 4.9 catches, 70.1 yards and .35 TDs.

The Steelers’ Brown,Authentic Derrick Henry Jersey,Womens Jack Conklin Jersey, even when he signed his four-year, $68 million extension in Feb. 2017, actually,Womens Austin Johnson Jersey, had sub-Beckham career numbers at 6.2 catches, 82.9 yards and .49 TDs per game — albeit in a 101-game sample size.

God love them and all the picks they've handed on a silver platter to Dorsey,The old regime, never would have done that. That analytics-driven group led by Sashi Brown believed that the positional value of running back was such that you should never use such priceless draft capital on a position that (a) tends to burn out faster than others and (b) often produces very good-to-elite talent in lower rounds.

Alvin Kamara and the like. That regime believed in placing a higher value on pass rushers,Say what you will about Brown and that Browns regime. There's actually an argument to be made about it given the recent lower-round successes such as David Johnson, offensive linemen, Kareem Hunt, corners and — oh yeah — quarterbacks.

passing up on Carson Wentz, Deshaun Watson and others. So even if their theory remains relatable in theory,Bite your tongue. The fact that they're out and Dorsey is in clearly is directly tied to the Browns' inability to land a franchise QB, it certainly didn't pan out in practice.

The Browns still need a quarterback. This is not breaking news. They likely need two, they could trade up, and even with their warchest of draft picks (including No. 4 overall) it's a risky proposition to pass on your first choice at QB at 1 and at least prepare yourself for the idea of settling for your QB3 at 4. Sure, and they have the ammo with which to do it, in fact, but perhaps that doesn't interest the New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts, owners of the second and third picks.

But here's what the news of Barkley being in play at No. 1 tells me: First, like many, it means they are, enamored with Barkley's skill set. And third, it says the Browns might not have that clear-cut top QB guy. Second, it lends more credence to the idea of the Browns landing a QB free agent — A.J. McCarron is the name that makes the most sense — before the draft, giving them a slight layer of insurance.

you take him. Yes,When you find a special player, the Browns need a quarterback even if they sign someone else there. But a potential game changer such as Barkley might not last until the fourth pick.

Giants GM Dave Gettleman took a 200-pound running back at No. 9 last year with the Carolina Panthers after saying he loved big backs. And he certainly didn't shoot down the idea of Barkley at 2 when asked during the media session. But the Giants and Colts badly need difference makers on offense and are thin in the backfield. There's also the possibility of someone else dealing up to that spot in front of the Browns' No. 4 pick if they pass on Barkley at 1.

Typically, though, nor trade up to get one high. Recent top-five backs Ezekiel Elliott and Leonard Fournette both have had their moments early in their career, even with some potential worries down the road. But Barkley is much cleaner character-wise and health-wise than those two, teams don't act this way. The standard is not to draft backs that high, respectively, and might be an even more dynamic player.
